Looking Backwards to Dress Forward Before you go shopping we suggest a quick evaluation on the remnants of your wardrobe from summer's past. If you possess: raggedy flip flops, baby tees with clever quips on the front, boho chic garments or any faux turquoise jewelry TRASH THEM ALL IMMEDIATELY. You're a grown up, so dress like one.
This season dresses are everywhere. The ultimate must have is the Little White Dress. The LWD is the twin sister to LBD or the little black dress, except less fussy. My personal favorite is the Silk Habotai Eyelet dress from the BCBG Max Azria Spring 2007 Runway Collection. This look easily goes from day to night. Major retailers like J-Crew, The Gap and Banana Republic all have interesting LWDs to choose from. Keep in mind what looks great on Jessica Biel might not fare as well on you. Pay attention to fabric and cut.
Other key pieces for the summer are empire waist dresses, long flowing summer dresses, A-line minis and summer shorts. Both the empire waist dress and A-Line mini are still going strong from the spring. Both are generally figure flattering and can be dressed up or down for every occasion. While long flowing dresses are new this season, they are definitely key additions for the summer. As for summer shorts, itty bitty shorts will not be making a come back this summer season. This year summer shorts are just a tad bit longer and tasteful. Feel free to pick them up in every color.
Expose the toes It's time to put away your knee length boots and spring for a mani and pedi. Your dogs have been hidden all winter so before you let them out make sure they get the attention they need. We know its summer but if you plan on wearing flip flops or sandals make sure you keep your pedicurist on speed dial.
Summer foot ware is a vital component to a sophisticated summer look. I've seen great summer sandals in practically every color and texture. If I had to chose two exceptional summer sandals it would have to be the Stuart Weitzman \"Oval\" Metallic Flat Sandal and the Calvin Klein \"Cadee\" Sandal. Both are classic looks that will certainly be useful next summer!
Let your hair down Finally, back in the spring we suggested growing out your locks and scaling back on heavy make up. Well we're sticking to our guns. Summer fashion should be fun so your hair and make should be too. This summer our goal is to help you present an upgraded version of you this summer. So whether you opt for a LWD or sexy summer sandals make sure the pieces you purchase are a true representation of you. After all, style is more than the fashion must haves of the moment. Style is all about self expression. So get dressed and look fabulous this summer!
